I went through the decision process myself and settled on the 18K's for both. One for popping and one for jigging. For myself, I enjoy using the 14000 for plugging whereas I used to use the 18000. It has just a tad bit more capacity than the 10000 spool and is a lot lighter than the 18000. Personal preference #1. - the added weight of 1 more #16 ( or #20 in a pinch ) is minimal & the stress levels on the blank from the guidetrain in the mid section to stripper area under high load will be significantly lower than #2. If you are going to fish it hard #1.

The Raptors do not have an Anti-Reverse bearing so there is a little play in the handle. It only bothers some people when speed jigging. I personally do not mind and use an HX Raptor. Bad ass reels. If you are jigging structure/rocks/etc. for big Grouper or (other big fishes) that tend to run to the wreck or rocks to try to run in a hole or cut you off, you'll find it hard to stop them w/ the LRS- even at max drag...A 50ah Lifepo4 for 120ish bucks is what you want for that bait rod. WIll last a 4 day deep drop trip without recharging. Recharges pretty quick if need be. You will want a 14-20ah rectangle type battery for your backpack. I have 2 Lifepo4s for bait and 3 rectangles for slow pitch (for me and the Mrs)..
