Rune mage tree can definitely be it's own damage tree. You will want to get any source of ethereal damage buffs because rune mage's most powerful damage spells (runic trap and runic great blade) use ethereal damage. Runic trap is especially strong for its impact damage. Prep the green rune, then run in front of an enemy and place the red rune.

Imo Chakra has 2 distinct build paths. Tanky, Chakra, and a 1h weapon (both Chakra and 1h weapon need to be weapons that hex people), and HexMage as your core damage.
