I just signed up. I own and have owned many Rugers; rifles, semi-autos and revolvers. Generally, I have been very pleased with their reliability and accuracy. I took delivery of a Security-9 last week and went to the range yesterday. It is the most inaccurate out-of-the-box firearm I have ever owned.

A semi auto that has the slide locked back will have a loose barrel that is the way it works until the slide goes into battery then the barrel will be tight in the slide with very minimal movement. You say it jams up how does it jam up.

I recently bought my wife a Ruger Security-9 for protection. When I first inspected it, I found it was really hard to get the slide stop to set, but was told it would loosen up with firing, and slingshot worked fine. After about 300 rounds, it's easier to set the slide stop. But the problem is the slide "locks out" on last round.

They said that the tech ran 60 rounds through it and didn't experience the problem of the last round remaining in the magazine with the slide locked open.
