Marloe. I know this is an old thread, but i would like to see the results between an 18.5 inch vs a 22 inch in a 45-70 rifle my self. A 308 pretty much tops out at 20 inches unless you use slower powders. At dusk, if you see a slight amount of mussel flash, with what I have heard, you are at the max with that load.

Jul 14, 2021 · The 444 has a slight advantage in that it shoots a little flatter and has a higher velocity. It is capable of taking any North American game with the right bullet. Not knocking the 45 70, It is a very good cartridge. But the 444 has nothing to be ashamed of.
